Founded on November 7, 1938, with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi and the support of several prominent figures from India’s freedom movement, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has evolved from humble beginnings into a comprehensive Indian intellectual, cultural, and educational movement. Apolitical by nature, the Bhavan was envisioned by its founder, Kulpati Dr. K. M. Munshi, as an ‘Adventure in Faith’—a faith in India’s past, present, and future, and in its people who possess a rich and enduring cultural heritage.

Dedicated to revitalizing Dharma—encompassing Truth, Love, and Beauty—the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan tirelessly works to promote India’s timeless message of Faith, Self-discipline, and Dedication. It believes in the universal elements of culture that transcend barriers and unite people, embracing the ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: “The world is one family.” Its motto is: “Let noble thoughts come to us from every side.”

Over the past six decades, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has blossomed into a dynamic, voluntary, and apolitical national movement with an international perspective, dedicated to the enrichment of life, literature, and culture.

With 117 centers across India and 7 international centers, along with 355 constituent institutions, the Bhavan’s diverse programs cover all aspects of life—from the cradle to the grave and beyond. As Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru remarked during his visit to the Bhavan in 1950, its initiatives address a growing void in modern life.

Bhavan's Faith

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan stands firmly for the reintegration and preservation of Indian culture. In a world increasingly overwhelmed by an impersonal technological advance, the Bhavan remains committed to upholding the fundamental values that define our cultural heritage: RITA (cosmic order), SATYA (truth), YAGNA (sacrifice), and TAPAS (ascetic discipline).

These core principles are:

  • FAITH in God, who sustains the cosmic order.
  • TRUTH, representing harmony between thought, speech, and action.
  • DEDICATION, offering every action as an offering to the Divine.
  • SUBLIMATION, purifying body and mind and transforming instincts and emotions into expressions of beauty.

These values form the essence of Dharma, with its three-fold aspects of SATYAM (Truth), SHIVAM (Love), and SUNDARAM (Beauty). Our forefathers, including revered figures like Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Swami Dayananda, Swami Vivekananda, Gandhiji, and Shri Aurobindo, lived and died for these values. They continue to be embedded in our national outlook, earning global respect and providing us with confidence in our future. Their vitality validates these values even in our challenging times.

As members of the Bhavan’s family, whether small or large, we must strive to restore awareness of these values in both personal and collective life.

It is often said that a school is a temple, reflecting its sacred role in nurturing a child’s growth. In a world where many children dream of attending school, those who have the opportunity are indeed fortunate.

Shree A.K. Doshi Vidyalaya, situated within the Shree A.K. Doshi Mahila College campus in Jamnagar, is a testament to this sacred mission. Just as a building relies on a strong foundation, an educational institution depends on its trustees. The trustees of Shree A.K. Doshi Vidyalaya are the bedrock of the Bhavan’s educational endeavors.

“School is not preparation for life; it is life itself.”

At Bhavan’s A.K. Doshi Vidyalaya, we focus on individual growth and development, fostering an environment where students can absorb knowledge and adapt to a rapidly changing world. Our innovative approach provides students with diverse educational opportunities, allowing each to realize their full potential.

We emphasize not only academic excellence but also the moral and cultural values that are essential in today’s scientific age. Our teachers regularly impart these values to ensure that students retain their cultural roots amidst modern advancements.

Bhavan’s A.K. Doshi Vidyalaya offers numerous opportunities for students to explore and develop their talents. From grades 1 to 9, students enthusiastically engage in various activities, demonstrating their abilities in literature, acting, art, and music. The dedication of our excellent staff, supportive management, and involved parents ensures that these achievements are recognized and nurtured.

In defining our school, we embody:

  • Scholarship
  • Conduct
  • Honesty
  • Oath
  • Optimism
  • Liberty

Through these principles, we aim to prepare our students not just for academic success but for a meaningful and fulfilling life.
